Our story
A family agency built for Alaska's community
We didn't start this agency to sell policies. We started it because the organizations doing the most important work in Alaska deserved better protection.
Where we came from
Northern Advantage Insurance Leaders was founded in 1999 by Margaret Calloway, a third-generation Alaskan who grew up watching her father pastor a small Lutheran congregation in Fairbanks. She saw firsthand how faith communities and non-profits operated on shoestring budgets, relying on volunteers, donated equipment, and the goodwill of their neighbors.
After years of volunteering with Anchorage-area non-profits, Margaret earned her insurance license and set out to build an agency that actually understood the organizations she cared about. Not a national franchise. Not a call center. A local, family-run shop where clients could talk to the same person every time.
Twenty-five years later, that's still exactly what we are. Margaret's husband Robert joined the agency in 2011, bringing twelve years of non-profit executive experience with him. Together with Dana Whitfield, our client relations specialist, we protect over 300 organizations across Alaska — from small rural churches to large urban non-profits.
Our mission
"To protect the organizations that protect Alaska's communities — with honest advice, fair pricing, and the kind of personal service that only a family agency can provide."
Honesty
We tell you what you need — and what you don't. We'd rather lose a sale than oversell a policy.
Community
We live and work in the same communities we serve. Your success is our success.
Expertise
We specialize. Non-profits and houses of worship are all we do, which means we do them better than anyone.
Accountability
When something goes wrong, we show up. Claims support, advocacy, and follow-through — every time.
Community involvement
We give back to the communities we serve
Annual non-profit risk workshop
Every spring, we host a free half-day workshop for Anchorage-area non-profit leaders covering risk management, board liability, and insurance basics.
Faith community roundtable
We convene an annual gathering of Alaska faith community administrators to share best practices on safety, governance, and coverage.
Pro bono consultations
We offer free 30-minute consultations to any Alaska non-profit or house of worship — no obligation, no sales pitch.
